The Good Ole Days

Billy Joel said it best “the good ole’ days weren’t always good and tomorrow’s not as bad as it seems”.  Of course, he was banging Christie Brinkley three times a day back then so who knows what the hell he was thinking.

As people age something happens and many people just start spewing nonsense about how things back in their day were better. Music was better, TV was better, kids were more respectful, workers worked harder, woman swallowed more – blah, blah fucking fuck fuck blah.

Really?  Let’s travel back to that “mythical” time when it rained puppies and kittens and everything was better.  Back then, there was some asshole just like them talking the same stupid shit about how HIS time was better.  Travel back in time to that asshole’s perfect past and you’ll find another asshole pining for his past as when things were the best.  Next thing you know, we have traveled back to when people and horses shit and pissed in the street and for fuck’s sake, no one, I mean no one, used Purell.

Selective Memory must be a survival trait as every generation does it and it is the main source of the generation gap.  People say “music today sucks, back in my day, our music had meaning”.

Yeah Kung Fu Fighting and Werewolves of London helped people find God.

I once read where some dipshit wrote – “Why do we need Smart Phones and all this technology, the world didn’t stop 25 year ago when we didn’t have them”.  Awww fuck me … no shit pal – and 25-150 years before that, the world didn’t stop without penicillin, telephones, airplanes, cancer treatments, polio and smallpox vaccines, civil rights, anesthesia,  Quit thinking the world you grew up with is the default position on what is right … quit romanticizing your past as if that time was when things were proper and all of this new stuff is just stupid or crazy and if we just went back to the simpler times, then all would be fine. Your past is meaningless as a point of reference on what is good.

Although I bet you Billy Joel would say the Christie Brinkley years were pretty good.
